A life-long career in the Performing Arts
Laine Theatre Arts provides an exceptional training for anyone who wants a long career in professional musical theatre. Founded in 1974 in Epsom, Laine is simply one of the best international dance and drama training colleges for performing arts.
Laines training programme is a dynamic combination of up to the minute performance techniques and traditional values with a considerable theatre heritage at its base. There is a strong emphasis on discipline which plays an undeniably vital role in success and employability.
Trinity Report 2013 - “Laine Theatre Arts is an exemplary provider. Student attainment, both technically and artistically, is consistently high which is noted in the Ofsted, CDET and Trinity reports.”
Trinity Report 2013 - “It is remarked that the graduates’ reputation in the industry is high which is compounded by strong employment successes. This is complemented by the numbers still working in the profession after five years of completing their training.”
The enviable list of Alumni speaks for itself. From every West End programme tumbles a list of Laine Graduates.
Outstanding musical theatre and dance training
The College aims to provide students with the greatest possible individual attention from a dedicated, highly-qualified and caring staff, furnishing them with the broadest spectrum of musical theatre and dance training.
“Both personal and professional guidance and support was rated as “outstanding.” Trinity Report 2013
The objective of our courses is to prepare students for employment in the entertainment industry as ‘triple threat' musical theatre performers and to enable each student to achieve the highest possible standard of professionalism.
“Rapport between teachers and students was “excellent” which created “an environment in which students develop their technical skills rapidly and to a very high standard.” Trinity Report 2013
Putting dance right at the heart of it
Whilst we work across the three core musical theatre skills of dance, singing and acting with all students, dance is central to our ethos.
Most professional musical theatre auditions begin with a dance audition and invariably graduates, whether they specialised in singing, acting or dance, will need to pass this audition before proceeding to the next stage.
Dance is therefore a core skill at Laine. All students, whether or not they have had much previous experience, must achieve a high standard in this discipline. Ballet is the foundation of all dance and students participate in streamed classes throughout their course.
Triple Threat Performers
Developing your theatrical potential
Dance and dance technique alone are not enough. Performers have to demonstrate they can dance, sing and act together in order to become a 'triple threat' performer.
Laine courses ensure you acquire the necessary skills to combine the disciplines and develop your skills as a ‘triple-threat performer' - that is, someone who can dance, sing and act and, more importantly, do all three at the same time!
